Raleigh's a name that's been part of Nottingham's history for more than a century.Although bicycle production ended in 2002 the firm is still designing and distributing bicycles from Nottinghamshire at a new site in Eastwood.A new range is due to be launched next month and Raleigh is gearing itself for a rush in orders. Manager Phillip Darnton says its new range of bicycles is aimed at the youth market, but will still be manufactured in Asia.The old way of advertising Raleigh bicycles.Raleigh has been working for nine months on the new youth bicycle design, Raleigh spokesman Mike Reynolds said."The early reaction to the design has been good," he said, but added that the new designs are not yet in production."There has been a major move away from the traditional bicycle design to a more tailor-made look that suits the customer," Mr Reynolds said.
Raleigh closed it huge Nottingham factory, which once employed 8,000 workers, at the end of 2002.
