Initially a world leading innovator in the ski market, Scott ventured into bicycle manufacturing at exactly the same time as Karapoti, and the Scott brand quickly became synonemous with groundbreaking innovations, particularly in the mountain bicycle and triathlon markets.
In 1987 Scott utilised aerodynamic technology from the ski industry to pioneer triathlon aerobars. Two years later Greg Lemond popularised the technology when he used Scott aerobars to win the Tour de France by eight seconds. In more recent years they have been at the forefront of lightweight carbon fibre technology, producing the world’s lightest mountain bicycle, triathlon and road racing bicycles.
The 2007 Scott Karapoti Classic saw the New Zealand launch of the Scott Spark, the world’s lightest full-suspension carbon fibre mountain bicycle. Former world mountain bicycle champion Thomas Frischknecht calls the Spark, "the ultimate marathon and trail bicycle".
Karapoti has been New Zealand’s pioneering mountain bicycle event and Scott has been the pioneer of the world’s lightest mountain bicycles. They were born at the same time and continue to develop together.

The Ransom has redefined all-mountain by pushing upward the travel expectations and attainable weights associated with the category. The Ransom features Centerpoint technology and it’s Equalizer TC shock offers three travel modes, with associated geometry, at your fingertips. Choose between “Lockout” mode, “Traction” mode with 90 mm (3.5 inches) of travel and “All Travel” mode giving you 165 mm (6.5 inches) of smooth travel. Each travel mode alters the bottom bracket height and head angle to give you the perfect geometry for any situation. We offer both CR1 composite (Ltd, 10 & 20) and aluminum versions (30 & 40) to suit your taste. Because the Ransom is so lightweight (LTD version 13.55 kg/29.8 lbs, w/o pedals) and so versatile it is the perfect solution for your backcountry needs.
