Ultralight Trikes are the granddaddies of ultralight flying. It kind of went like this. The “rogallo wing” was the early favorite for hang glider enthusiasts that hurled themselves off the slopes and cliffs of the California coast. Its structure consists of a center or keel tube attached to two swept leading edge tubes. A single surface of sailcloth covers the few ribs it sports. The leading edge tubes are kept in place with a kingpost on top and a simple understructure that also supports the pilot in a sling. Control was and still is by weight shift for both pitch and roll. The pilot can be prone in flight or he can sit in a seat.
As it was with the evolution of all early ultralight gliders, trikes have grown up and now can sport engines, instruments, enclosures, two seats and all the bells and whistles of its flying cousins.

The new Maverick 2 trike frame has been extended to maximize storage space behind the pilot, enable additional fuel storage, camping equipment, and anything that fits in the space and maintains acceptable weight limits.We also changed the folding design of the trike mast, so only the mast pivots just above the seat rail and now includes a spring-assisted mast as our Apache two-place trike has.The new spring-assisted mast on the Maverick 2 reduces the effort required to lift the wing into position, reducing the effort required to lift from 83 lbs of wing to 15 lbs.
The Maverick 2 wing also has been improved, featuring a strutted airframe instead of the older kingpost and wires design that added drag and reduced flight performance. We have increased the load rating of the wing, from 550 gross to 650 gross by a new airframe. The increased load rating is especially helpful for pilots who like to fly on floats. The Maverick 2 wing has another feature for convenient travel or storage, the ability for the wing to fold back while attached to the trike.
